What We Believe (Position Statement)

Mennonites hold many basic doctrines in common with other Christian groups. In answer to the theological issues of Reformation times, they emphasized:

  • The Bible as the authoritative Word of God, the New Testament as the pattern of life for the community of believers.
  • The sinfulness of man and the necessity of regeneration through experience of the new birth.
  • The church, the visible body of Christ, practicing believer’s baptism and regarding the elements of the Lord’s Supper as memorial symbols.
  • The life of nonresistant love, refusing participation in warfare of the magistracy.
  • The separation of church and state.
  • The life of simplicity and separation from worldly extravagances.
  • The believing community, a refuge of love and mutual aid
  • The daily walk of obedient discipleship.
  • We extend a hearty welcome to all our visitors and invite you back again.

Statement of Faith

We believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God who came to earth and died for our sins. Through His resurrection, He has given us eternal life. For we know that “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” (Romans 10:23) That is the promise that we hold on to.

Our History

The foundation of our congregation was laid in 1934 by a young woman, Esther Mellinger Bair. She desired to start a Bible school in her Hinkletown home. Those successful weekly, summer Bible schools showed our early leaders the need for a church in the Hinkletown area. In 1943, the Hinkletown Mennonite Church began.

It has been noted, from its early days to the present time, the themes of pioneering, giving and harmony have prevailed in the Hinkletown Mennonite Church.

Statement of Purpose

We are committed:

  • To PROVIDE an atmosphere for the worship of our Lord Jesus Christ, for the leading of the Holy Spirit and for the fellowhip of believers.
  • To PREPARE God’s people for works of service through instruction, encouragement and admonition.
  • To PROCLAIM Christ’s love and salvation to our community and the world through our words and actions.
